Here’s a radical statement: Everyone can sing.

Are you a musician who has doubts about their voice?
Do you trust what’s going to come out of your mouth?
Do you know that your voice will stay strong and able through a long (or short!) gig?
What about your pitch? Are you in tune the way you want to be?
Can you access the sounds you want when you want them?

At Velarde Voice you will learn how your voice, that hidden instrument, works. You’ll find new ways to use tools you already have. You’ll learn new ways to play with your vocal sounds. You absolutely can learn to direct the voice that lives inside your body with intent, efficiency and dependability for maximum effect and communication.

You will be challenged with honesty and support. You will be encouraged and given the tools to succeed. You will find a coach as dedicated to helping you reach your vocal goals as you are dedicated to your music.

Mission
Learn how to use your “toolbox” of personal voice technique for consistently healthy and dynamic communication. Optimize your sound by learning how your own vocalizations work and reveal your hidden voice!

Studio Hours
Friday: 3-7 pm
Saturday: 8:30 am-12:30 pm

How do you learn?
First and foremost, this is a partnership. You need to work. Singing is an athletic skill that requires practice and attention. Even five minutes daily will get you further than one 2-hour block weekly. My job, always, is to find a way to give you individualized information so that it “clicks” in your brain so you can make the sounds you want, when you want them. No cookie-cutters at Velarde Voice (although cookies are good!).
We’ll work together to figure out your vocal goals and find a plan of action. Your voice and your goals are most important. You will be challenged with honesty and support. You will be encouraged and given the tools to succeed. You will find that your voice can be everything you want it to be.
Trust your vocal sound.
Play with communication.
Sing to your maximum potential.

Reveal Your Hidden Voice.

Bring your instrument! You’d be amazed at how your voice can change with small physical adjustments while playing. You’ll also have a grand piano for your use during lessons.

We have a Peavey Escort 300-watt sound system. Bring your own microphone or use one of ours! Mics available in the studio: Blue Encore 200, Sennheiser E835S, AKG D5S

You can also record each lesson in HD video/audio for review (camera provided, 32GB or greater SDHC card required).

Studio Policies
The studio works on a three-month subscription basis. Each package entitles you to nine lessons, customized “I’m sick and can’t come in” video guides, and the freedom to fit lessons in around your schedule, subject to studio availability.

Qualifications
I have fancy degrees and qualifications (a lot of them), but what you need to really know is that you will learn how to sing better and how to reveal the “hidden instrument” that is the voice. Check the "About" page for more details.

Testimonials

Josh Hill, www.thehillinmind.com
Rachel Velarde is an intuitive and versatile teacher who can benefit a musician working in any style. She uses technical approaches to confront psychological and emotional barriers that helped me push past my perceived limitations and get to know the power of my voice. Her teaching released my musical experience from my busy mind and allowed me to cultivate sound from a pure and nonjudgmental place. In our time together, I grew immensely as a singer and my overall musicianship became more connected and grounded in emotion and beauty.

Rachel is an amazing vocalist instructor! She has knowledge beyond what one would ever imagine for voice lessons. I went in thinking I was going to learn how to sing and boy did I! I also received instruction about how the entire body movement and stance is related to the voice with visuals and professional feedback. What valuable information she has taught me!!! Thank-you Rachel!
